About a year ago, we purchased our first apartment in Brooklyn – Hooray! A home wherein I can do whatever I want, as long as I give my husband three options to choose from. He always picks the least crazy idea but prevents me from making our apartment dangerously non-functional.
Though we’ve made progress, it’s nowhere close to my vision for the space. Since we’ll be spending a lot of time discussing “Peppertopia”, here’s the full tour to help orient you. In later posts, I’ll breakdown the plans for each room.
The foyer/entry is small, but we have one! There’s a spacious walk-in closet right inside the front door.
THE LIVING ROOM
From the foyer, you turn left into the primary space. The living room is a huge 12 x 28’4″ space. We use this area as our main gathering area and we have essentially divided it into two zones. The living area and…
THE STUDY/GUEST SPACE
… the study/guest space. Eventually, we want to construct a floor-to-ceiling retractable glass wall to officially divide the space.
THE DINING AREA
The dining room is well positioned right off the living room and kitchen, giving us two exposures in the main living space and tons of light. Eventually we’ll knock down part of the kitchen wall to create a more open plan.
A walk-in closet AND an outdoor space? Unheard of for most NYC residents. It’s small but so refreshing to have an outside space where I can attempt to keep plants alive.
The kitchen is galley style and it’s just the right size. This room’s getting a major overhaul at some point. Much more on that to come.
If you take a right off the entry-way, you are in the hallway to the bedrooms. There’s a hall closet for coats, a generous linen closet at the end, and Mabel’s bathroom.
THE HALL BATH
The hall bathroom got a modern reno before we moved in and I basically hate it. Blech, beige tile. It’s a low priority in the grand scheme of renovations, but this sucker will be brighter when it’s re-tiled white down the road.
Mabel’s bedroom is gloriously big with two closets and a large window.
THE MASTER BEDROOM AND EN SUITE
The master bedroom has a small en suite bath (a real treat for us Brooklynites!) We also have two closets and a huge window.
Stay tuned for more details on what I’ve accomplished (in decorating, and maybe life, too) since we moved in and my plans for each room.
