Everything feels a little topsy turvy this year. I have a feeling that its a rite of passage for parents to feel conflicted about Christmas, but it feels especially acute given the state of the world today.
That said, the Christmas spirit has found me, in the form of a new homeless shelter that just opened a few streets over from our apartment.
Through listserves and emails, my neighbors have organized themselves to provide the new residents with welcome kits, grocery cards, Christmas toys for the kids, food for the holidays, diapers for the infants, a visit from Santa, the list goes on… and I hope it won’t stop after Jan 1. Being part of this effort will be one of the best things I’ve done in 2015.
I hope you are finding peace and happiness this holiday season.
